Patt Odom Art Research Library
During the 2008 January Board Meeting of OSAA,
Patt Odom stated that she would like to donate from her
personal library, approximately 600-700 books for the brand
new OSAA library facility in the Visual Arts Room at the
Mary C. The 2008 Board of Directors and President Carole
Marie graciously accepted her offer and designated the new
room the “Patt Odom Art Research Library.”
By February 2008, a committee was formed, and
the project was started by four key members: President
Carole Marie, Shelby Fox, Linda Nix and Gail Cheney. The
timeline projected for completion was 2011, and the work
began. The committee established a mission statement for
the new library.
The mission of the Patt Odom Library is to promote visual
arts in the community by providing a premier selection of
art books to be used for the purpose of education,
enrichment, and inspiration and to impart a love of art in
children through the
library's UMPA-LUMPAprogram. UMPA-LUMPA (Upwardly Mobile Professional Association's Library UtilizingMany Participating Artists)
utilizes members of the Ocean Springs Art Association to
provide in-house and outreach education in the form of
demonstrations, art talks, and mini-lessons to ensure that
the love and appreciation of art is perpetuated through the
youth of the Ocean Springs' elementary schools.
